Digital Library -- IT opportunities and Challenges in the New Millennium

	The International Conference of Digital Library --- IT Opportunities and Challenges in the New Millennium (Http://www.nlc.gov.cn/dloc/ ) is sponsored by Ministry of Culture and organized by the National Library of China with Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, General Administration of Press and Publishing, and People's Government of Beijing Municipality as the supporting units. Scheduled to be held in Beijing from 8 to 12 July 2002. The Beijing International Exhibition of Digital Info-Service and Technology will take place at the same time. It is worthwhile to pay a visit to Beijing, this world-famous city. We are looking forward to the arrival of international and indigenous scholars and experts in all fields for the studies and discussions on digital libraries. This conference will provide an opportunity for the participants to hold formal and informal discussions. It is bound t make a great contribution to the knowledge and information communication in digital systems, and to the general acknowledgement in the key technologies and concepts, among the countries around the world. No matter you submit the paper, the participation is welcome.

		Promotion of international exchanges and cooperation for the sustainable research and 		development of DL
 	Topics:
	a) DL theory, framework, and model 
	b) Production, preservation, service, and management of digital resources (including 		ancient books and literatures)
	c) Organization and development of digital libraries
	d) Standards for digital libraries
	e) DL research collaboration, cooperation and resource sharing
	f) DL related technologies (including advanced DL techniques, system architectures, 		application platforms, and requirements and systems for addressing resource 		management, user services, and security issues)
	g) Operating models for digital libraries (including funding issues, managerial structure, 		and model for sustainability)
	h) Intellectual property and copyright issues

	5. Conference Arrangement:
	Researchers and practitioners coming from US, German, Japan, France, India and so on will 	make speech about the DL development in their libraries. Plenary and parallel break-out 	sessions will be conducted. Plenary sessions will include papers and invited talks of 	relevance to core DL research issues. Parallel break-out sessions will be based on similar 	topic interests.
