British Library TONE Server

Dear Colleagues

The British Library wishes to announce that on Nov 15th 2001 it will be
closing down its experimental TONE Z39.50 server. The TONE server was always
intended to be used solely for Z39.50 interoperability testing purposes and
contained only a limited selection of British Library records. After
successfully meeting this requirement for several years the Library has
decided that the continued operation of what is becoming an increasingly
outdated system would bring little further benefit .

Registered partcipants in the ONE-2 project (http://www.one-2.org/) can
continue to access the British Library ONE-2 Z39.50 server. Announcements
concerning future British Library Z39.50 activities will be made in due
course.

Users interested in accessing the main catalogue of the Library can use the
web-based British Library Public Catalogue available at http://blpc.bl.uk

John Lowery
