Using Explain? *grins* That was what I was after. Personally, I understand (pretty much) the BIB1 and Architectured attributes. But I remember it taking quite a while to get to that stage, and I still have to look up non trivial (title/author/date/personal name etc) attribute numbers when configuring a new database. So, when someone else comes to configure a database they need to go through the same learning curve as I did (quite apart from all the rest of the Z39.50 learning curve) and I was looking for a way to make this easier. My vision: (It's not I have a Dream scale, never fear) A CGI script on a web site that takes a description of an -index- and returns the appropriate BIB1 attributes, or if it can't figure it out tries to do something sensible with it and gives a list of options. A tool for people who don't know that much about Z39.50 to lower the barrier to entry of setting up the mappings between an existing database or index and the attributes that will be coming down the wire. So, a CCL <--> RPN is in the right vein, but not exactly what I had in mind. Rob -- ,'/:. Rob Sanderson (azaroth@liverpool.ac.uk) ,'-/::::. http://www.o-r-g.org/~azaroth/ ,'--/::(@)::.
