The OCLC Office of Research has already produced an Open Source OAI Harvester and Repository (http://alcme.oclc.org). The OAI community recognizes the need for a searching mechanism, but has not produced a standard for one yet. Z39.50, as currently implemented, is not being seriously considered by them. As my part of the ZNG implementation experiment, I have committed to building an Open Source ZNG implementation on top of our OAI repository. I hope that its combination of simplicity and power will make it a candidate for adoption by the OAI community. Ralph
