[Excuse the cross-postings to the ZIG List, the Bath Profile List, and the TZIG List. Please forward to others if appropriate.] The National Information Standards Organization has established a standards committee (Standards Committee AV) to produce a National Z39.50 Profile for Library Applications. This new work will build on recent state, national, and international profiling efforts to improve Z39.50 use in library applications. The national profile will be a compatible superset of The Bath Profile: An International Z39.50 Specification for Library Applications and Resource Discovery. The NISO profile will extend the Bath Profile specifications to address specific national search and retrieval requirements. NISO will ballot the draft national profile through its regular standards development and approval procedures. The result will be an American National Standard. The work on the national profile and its approval are expected to be completed by Summer 2001.(Full press release at: <http://www.niso.org/PR-profile.html>) COMMITTEE'S WEBSITE: The first meeting of the Standards Committee AV is November 3-4, 2001 in Irving, Texas. To ensure access to information about the work of the committee, there is a Standards Committee AV website at: <http://www.unt.edu/zprofile> The website will have information about the committee, summaries of its meetings, and drafts of the proposed National Z39.50 Profile. The roster of the committee is at: <http://www.unt.edu/zprofile/NISOProfileCommitteeRoster.htm> COMMITTEE'S ONLINE DISCUSSION LIST: There is also an online discussion list for use by the committee and other interested parties.
