In preparing for the EXPLAIN discussion at the December ZIG a fundamental question has arisen, which I realize has arisen in our past discussions on this list. The question is whether in revisiting EXPLAIN we start from scratch and ask what people need or whether we believe that the existing EXPLAIN is the compilation of the requirements? I am hearing significant drive towards starting over - that is gathering everyones requirements and putting together new records. Note: I am only talking about what data needs to be conveyed in the above question. Whether this is sent in init, special queries, GRS, XML, separate HTTP connections, email, paper, whatever is a secondary question. Please send input (preferrably to the list so we can debate this), thanks Bob Waldstein (wald@lucent.com)
