I received the following note from a graduate student who would like to attend but would need help finding somewhere to stay (and I think he would like to be fed, too). His area of expertise is in vertical formatting of text, and he implemented the vertical layout in Pango. Contact me, or contact him directly, if you can help! Thanks! Liam [[ Greetings, I'd like participate in the Heidelberg XSL-FO workshop. The workshop is interesting for me as I'm working on an implementation of desktop-wide vertical text support, including my thesis I'll be writing year. The thesis's titled "Traditional Mongolian writing support for GTK+". I think my presence would be useful, as this is the first attempt I know of to implement a general layout model for vertical text on a desktop scale, and will naturally have to invent solutions for vertical and mixed directionality layout. Some of my background: I have been involved in GTK+ and GNOME, this summer I implemented a project for Google Summer of Code programme, "Vertical writing support for Pango". I'm interested in all isues concerning vertical writing, and also in all challenges in internationalised text rendering. However, to be able to participate, I will need some financial support, as I am a student and won't be able to cover the cost by myself. I should be able to cover the travel expenses, but a hotel in Germany is definitely out of my reach.
