You can create multiple normal-flow reference areas (columns) inside of the main reference area (that part of the body region between the floats and footnotes) by specifying the count of columns and the column gap in the body region definition in the page geometry. Check out the column properties in <region-body>. Note that in the simple page geometry of XSL-FO 1.0 one can only have equal sized evenly spaced columns. I hope this helps. ......................
