Jeni, I hope all is well with you. Almost a year ago, you raised issue 14881 Support for datatypes used by HTML <time> element [1], inquiring about improving support in XSD for the date, time, and duration formats defined in HTML 5. As I wrote you at the time [2], the timing made it difficult (or rather, impossible) to add a new type to XSD 1.1, but the XML Schema WG had a certain interest in defining a type, or a family of types, for the purpose, both in the form of an extension type which processors could optionally support and in the form of one or more fallback types which any processor would support but which would not have quite the value space one might wish for. The ensuing discussion seems to have made clear that some in the HTML 5 effort thought the exercise pointless, and no one was particularly interested in undertaking the necessary work in collaboration with the XML Schema WG. The XML Schema WG in turn didn't feel it had the resources (or the familiarity with the ins and outs of HTML 5 and its approach to specification of document types) to undertake the work on its own. When it looked as if the idea was a non-starter, I took an action to send you email to summarize the situation as the XML Schema WG saw it, and ask you if you think we are mistaken and that there is interest after all in collaboration on an appropriate family of datatypes. This email, late though it is, is my effort to clear that action. I'm going to mark the bug resolved / later, to record the WG's conviction that such types might well be a good idea, but that we are not in a position to create them now. You can signal that you are satisfied with the resolution of the issue (or if not exactly satisfied, then at least not inclined to lie down in the road over it) by closing the issue, or that you are not satisfied by re-opening the issue. If we don't hear from you in some reasonable period of time (we usually say two weeks, but it's more likely to be the end of the year in this case), we will assume you are content to let the matter drop and we will close the bug ourselves. best regards, Michael [1] https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=14881 [2] http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-xml-schema-comments/2011OctDec/0042.html -- **************************************************************** * C.
