Thank you Noah for informing me of the Schema Working Group's disposition of this issue. I understand the workload that the Working Group is facing, and appreciate that it isn't always possible to close off on every edge-case. Especially since it's difficult to imagine what practical purpose the application of identity constraints to URtypes would serve, I'm content with the (perhaps indefinite) postponement of this issue. The XML Schema workgroup most recenty discussed this issue on its teleconference of 28 March 2007. The members of the workgroup could not at that time reach consensus on making any changes to be reflected in XML Schema 1.1. Since the concerns you raised are believed to have merit, the issue is being closed for now with a status of LATER, which we use as an indicator of issues that we may wish to revisit if at some point in the future a version of XML Schema beyond version 1.1 is released. I am sorry that we did not make more progress on this issue at this time, but I hope that you find this resolution to be acceptable. Thank you.
