As part of an exercise to determine datatype requirements for the ISO Document Schemas Definition Language (DSDL) members of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC34 were asked to identify what problems they had encountered with the application of W3C datatypes. The attached Critique summarises the comments that were received from the experts on the ISO Working Group. We submit it in the hope that it may help current efforts to review the existing W3C Datatypes Martin Bryan, Convenor of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC34 WG1 IS-Thought: Thinkers for the Information Society 29 Oldbury Orchard, Churchdown, Glos.
