In XML Schema 1.0 one can define default values for eg. simple-type elements: <xsd:element name="person" type="xsd:string" default="Jack"/> It would, however, be useful for choice-modelgroup to be able to define default element (by eg. its name) from the different alternatives: <xsd:choice default="Plate"> <xsd:element name="WellCount" type="xsd:positiveInteger"/> <xsd:element name="Plate"> <xsd:complexType/> </xsd:element> <xsd:element name="AllPlates"> <xsd:complexType/> </xsd:element> <xsd:element name="Automatic"> <xsd:complexType/> </xsd:element> </xsd:choice>
