Section 4.4 "Deriving Complex Types by Restriction" of the XML Primer states In other words, an application prepared for the values of the base type would not be surprised by the values of the restricted type. Shouldn't this be In other words, an application prepared for the values of the restricted type would not be surprised by the values of the base type. Perhaps I do not understand what is meant by "application", but could not "an application prepared for values of the base type" contain values not in the subset of values for the restricted type?
