Dear XML Schema Working Group, I was grumbling about HTML tables used for layout _before_ looking at the XML Schema Part 1 Proposed Recommendation [1] markup. Now I see that what look like tables are all new divs. There are 227 fewer tables used for presentation in the most recent XML Schema, and 263 fewer if we only count Part 1. I haven't calculated the overhead for tables/divs in bytes, and just wanted to thank you.
