Schema LC-201. xdoc-keyref: Support cross-document keyref?

The W3C XML Schema Working Group has spent the last several months
working through the comments received from the public on the last-call
draft of the XML Schema specification. We thank you for the comments
you made on our specification during our last-call comment period, and
want to make sure you know that all comments received during the
last-call comment period have been recorded in our last-call issues
list (http://www.w3.org/2000/05/12-xmlschema-lcissues).

This message is a response to the following input from the Query Working Group:

>Query has a requirement to query across collections of documents, which
>implies that we will need referential mechanisms other than URI references
>(e.g., keys/keyRefs) across multiple documents. In version 1, the
>reference mechanisms defined by Schema are restricted to a single
>document. Mechanisms such as XPointer might address inter-document
>references if extended to support the keyRef datatype. We believe there is
>a future requirement for referential mechanisms between documents.

The response of the Schema Working Group is as follows:

We agree that this is an important issue. We have chosen not to do this
in version 1.0
    for reasons of simplicity.

It would be helpful to us to know whether the Query Working Group is
satisfied with the decision taken by the Schema WG on this issue, or
wish your dissent from the Schema WG's decision to be recorded for
consideration by the Director of the W3C.

Thanks!

Jonathan
