then you can do something along the lines of: @bar eq normalizedString('a b c') you can but if that's appearing in an xslt attribute it won't do you any good as the attribute value will already have been normalised before xpath gets started.\Of course that doesn't aply directly to xquery but is an indication that this just introduces confusion rather than functionality.
