This provides a shrink-wrapped format which can be used to deliver or store a full document. You can also see the zip content as a local cache (whatever the initial delivery mechanism). It allows signatures/md5 to be embedded too. I'm working on the definition of a new standard for Linux software packages and we are leading in this exact direction. IMHO this format should suit XML Packaging need too. This is a work in progress, and I don't have a full description publicly available yet. My only concern about ZIP is the possible existence of Intelectual Property Right applying to this format. I would not recommend using it is there is even a very small chance of having problem in this area in the future. Any insight on this matter would be highly appreciated.
