Would it be of value to have an attribute or element in the XLink specification which identifies the type of document (not mime-type, document type) the URI references? In this manner, the XPointer part of the link could then be more accurately defined within an automated system. Otherwise, without knowing the resulting document type, the XPointer specification is somewhat optimistically being applied. This is more of a problem when the schema or dtd author is not the document author. -floyd
