As currently described, c14n requires that the following be core, not peripheral: Absolute URI for namespace declarations comments (omitted from canonical form by default, but necessary for document subsets, which are key in dsig spec) Also, c14n makes available the default namespace declaration even when it is empty. Finally, attributes in the xml namespace are propogated in document subsets. Honestly, they are very much like namespace declarations, which are propogated even for whole documents.
