Addison et al., On behalf of the XML Core WG, let me apologize for not replying to your message of January 31 [1] sooner. We are about to take C14N 1.1 to Rec, and we appreciate the fact that your email indicated that you do not object to the document's advancement, but I would like to provide you with a reply explaining our position. One of the meta-issues with XML Core's publication of C14N 1.1 is that the WG was just chartered to make supposedly minor changes to C14N 1.0 to fix the fact that it was inheriting xml:id and xml:base attributes when it shouldn't. Both our charter and the C14N 1.1 requirements minimized our ability to touch other areas of the spec which explains why we haven't directly addressed either of the two points you raise in your message. Further maintenance of C14N will be undertaken by the XML Security Working Group, and we would join you in urging them to update the spec to refer to LEIRIs as soon as 3987bis is referenceable. paul [1] http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-xml-canonicalization-comments/20 08Jan/0000
