The Kentaroh Noji proposals to alter the production rules for XML 1.1 are accepted with respect to the BMP (#x0 - #xFFFF) with the following exceptions: U+070F SYRIAC ABBREVIATION MARK is an isolated character and not worth making a special case for. U+1680 OGHAM SPACE MARK is also an isolated character, and is often not rendered by whitespace anyway. U+180B - U+180E are required for the correct spelling of Mongolian. U+200C ZERO WIDTH NON-JOINER and U+200D ZERO WIDTH JOINER are required for the c orrect spelling of Persian and of most Indic languages. (Note that this is another reason that XML 1.0 names are inadequate, since they exclude ZWNJ and ZW J.) Regarding BMP planes, the Core WG has adopted the following policy: Planes 1-D are included in their entirety Planes E-10 are excluded in their entirety -- John Cowan jcowan@reutershealth.com "You need a change: try Canada" "You need a change: try China" --fortune cookies opened by a couple that I know
