Hello, As I've briefly told you yesterday, I'm preparing the request the extension of our charter. The updated charter draft is available at [5]. The changes I've made concern the milestones and the Current Patent Policy. Feedback is welcome. If I don't hear from you by Wed. 30th (next week) I will assume you agree with the proposal (but I'd like to hear so from you nevertheless). Thanks for your time! -jose --- Milestones I took into account the end of the CR period in early October 2004, as discussed early in this year. October 2004: End of CR period , completion of the interoperability matrix, request for PR. Early November 2004: PR February 2005: Request for Rec and Rec I'd like to hear from Guillermo, the WG members and the developers who are participating in the interop, if the October deadline is still realistic. If we can make it, then we can have the PR by early November. Beyond the middle of November and up to some time in December will be very busy period at W3C because of the preparation for the AC meeting and W3C's 10th anniversary. Estimation of publication dates beyond early November will be hard to estimate. It would be preferable if we make the October deadline. -- Patent Policy The XKMS WG has been following the Current Patent Policy (CPP), as described in its current charter[1]. Since 15 February 2004, the CPP has been amended [2] and all WG's who were covered under i the CPP have to adopt these amendments[3]. The amendments concern the following: - Definition of the "Royality-Free Licence" definition[4] - The disclosure rules - The PAG procedures - The definition of "Essential Claims" I've updated the Patent Policy section of the charter accordingly. I may need to change some of the info on how to make disclosures, but am not sure right now about the exact wording. Please send mail if someone is uncomfortable with these changes. --- [1] http://www.w3.org/2001/XKMS/2003/06/charter.html [2] http://www.w3.org/2004/02/05-pp-transition.html [3] http://www.w3.org/2004/02/05-pp-transition.html#general [4] http://www.w3.org/Consortium/Patent-Policy-20040205/#sec-Requirements [5] http://www.w3.org/2001/XKMS/2004/06/charter.html
