The 3rd International Conference of Service Oriented Computing
(ICSOC'05) follows on the success of two previous editions in New York
City, USA (2004) and Trento, Italy (2003), and aims at consolidating as
the main reference conference for service oriented computing and web
services, by (i) crossing the boundaries of the existing communities by
attracting top level scientific contributions from different scientific
communities, thus creating a scientific venue where participants can
share ideas and compare their approaches to tackling the many still open
common research challenges; (ii) establishing a link between research
and industry. Due to the industrial relevance of many research
challenges and service oriented technologies, ICSOC'05 inherits from
previous editions a strong industrial presence, both in the conference
organization and in the program.


This year, the International Program Committee selected 32 long  papers,
15 short papers. There are also demonstration papers and vision papers
selected for presentations which are unique features of the program.

Some of the highlights of the program are:

(1) Two half-day tutorials;

     Opportunities for Service Oriented Architecture in Telecom Industry

     WS-Agreement Concepts, Use and Implementation

(2) Keynote presentations from field leaders including;

     Carlo Ghezzi, Politecnico di Milano, Italy
     Stuart Feldman, IBM Research, USA
     Uday Kumaraswami, HP, USA
     David Chappell, Sonic Software, USA

(3) A panel discussion on  "SOA: Are they realistic?"

     The discussion  which is organised by the European Commission is an
     opportunity for experts in the field of service engineering to help
     identify key research challenges for the next 5-8 years. The results
     will be used to set funding priorities for research in this area during
     the Seventh Framework Programme (http://www.cordis.lu/ist/about/fp7.htm).

(4) Five workshops in the following areas;

     * Dynamic Web Processes - DWP '05
     * Design of Service-Oriented Applications - WDSOC '05
     * Engineering Service Compositions - WESC '05
     * Mediation in Semantic Web Services - MEDIATE '05
     * Service-Oriented Business Processes Integration - SOBPI '05
