Publically Available Web Services

Hi,

Is there a central repository for publicly available web services?

I am in need of a People Finder Service that would allow me to look up large numbers of people.  Could one possibly be readily available?

If you don't know of one could you tell me if there is a central directory for finding which services are currently provided by vendors?
