Issue clarify-type-and-element [1], titled "Clarify use of type= and element= in part with XML Schema experts" states "The question is whether we can just have element and still retain full abstraction or if not whether we can just have type and live." With the removal of the message construct, Interface Operations now have Message References, which in turn have a property: {message} A reference to an XML element declaration and the corresponding message attribute. Since @type and @element described in this issue have been dropped from the schema, and we now refer solely to XML element declarations, this issue appears to be obsolete.
