Introduction, with a twist

TO: W3C Web Services Description Working Group

Let me add my introduction to this group, but this introduction will
probably be a little different from the others so far.

I will represent the Data Interchange Standards Association that has the
abbreviation DISA. There is another organization not far from us here in
Virginia, the Defense Information Systems Agency, that is also a member of
W3C and also represented in this group, and also with the abbreviation
DISA. Perhaps we can call ourselves DISA.org while the DoD organization
can be DISA.mil.

But it only gets worse. If the name Alan Kotok looks familiar in the W3C
context, it is because the Consortium's associate chairman is also named
Alan Kotok. I can say with confidence that we are not the same person, but
you can expect a few double-takes and other evidence of confusion (such as
mis-routed e-mail) as we go forward.

My recent experience is in e-business technology, and while I have worked
with other standards bodies and industry organizations, this is my first
encounter with W3C. I also have a background in journalism, including
articles and books on information technology for business people, so I
offered to help edit this group's primer document.

I agree to participate in the Web Services Description working group per
the charter http://www.w3.org/2002/01/ws-desc-charter last revised on
January 26, 2002.

To the best of my knowledge, my organization does not have IPR claims
regarding Web Services.
