[Thanks to Hugo for setting this up and drafting the text of this message] There have been discussions in the W3C about creating a Web Services Interest Group. The idea came from members of the Web Services Architecture Working Group who proposed an Autonomous Web Services Interest Group. There is interest about investigating semantically rich Web services interactions. Other topics, such as RESTful Web service interactions, are in-scope AFAIK. There also is interest in the Semantic Web Activity to use Web services to exchange RDF-based information. It has to be noted that there already exists a public mailing list for general Web services discussions, www-ws@w3.org which currently mainly holds DAML-S related discussions, but this mailing list suffers from lack of visibility. The idea would be to create an Interest Group whose scope would include semantically rich interactions and Web services applications, and revive the www-ws mailing list at the same time. Historically, the Web Services Activity and the Semantic Web Activity have been "loosely coupled". Part of the activity of this Group would be an informal look at some more tightly coupled aspects. The Technical Plenary is a good opportunity to have interested parties talk to each other and to get people aware and excited about the WS IG and the www-ws mailing list. See the separate message about a BOF table at lunch on Wednesday.
