Greetings, Per my action item from the previous f2f meeting, I have an action item to propose a resolution for issue #18 [1]. This proposal is intended to comply with the WSA Issues Process [2]. This issue concerns a comment from Paul Cotton (pcotton@microsoft.com) as below. I was unable to locate the original email from which the comment derives. <original comment> |---------------------------------------------+----------------------------------+----------------------------------> |The WS Architecture Requirements [1] document| | | |refers to "TAG Architecture Categorization" | | | |[2] as a normative reference. This is not a | | | |good idea since this web page clearly states:| | | | | | | | | | | |"This is not a formal document in any sense, | | | |nor a working draft of the W3C. It is a | | | |working space for the TAG. Like all | | | |categorizations it is to a certain extent | | | |arbitrary. The tree structure below does not | | | |in any way dictate an order of writing the | | | |documents. This is not a formal document. It | | | |is more like a group note-book. It changes | | | |continually." | | | | | | | | | | | |At best this reference should be an | | | |Informative Reference. | | | | | | | | | | | |If you are looking for a normative reference | | | |I would recommend you consider using the " | | | |Architectural Principles of the World Wide | | | |Web" Working Draft [3] which is much more | | | |recent than [2]. | | | | | | | | | | | |[1]http://www.w3.org/TR/wsa-reqs | | | | | | | | | | | |[2]http://www.w3.org/2001/tag/doc/toc | | | | | | | | | | | |[3] | | | |http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/WD-webarch-20020830| | | |---------------------------------------------+----------------------------------+----------------------------------> >----------------------------------+----------------------------------+----------------------------------> | | | | >----------------------------------+----------------------------------+----------------------------------> >--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | | >--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| </original comment> <proposed response> Dear Mr. Cotton, Thank you very much for your comment to the WSA Working Group. We very much appreciate your time and effort in sending us this comment. Your comment has been added to the WSA Issues List [1] and will be resolved according to the WSA Issues process [2]. The editors of the WSA Requirements document [3] concur with your assessment regarding normative references to Technical Architecture Group documents. In response, we will modify the reference based on your suggestion, so that the reference points to the "Principles of the World Wide Web" document, prior to its next publication. Again, thanks for your comment.
