This is a very nice initial set of use cases for web services (12.1 thru 12.9). 12.7 will need to be fleshed out in context of web services in some cases. Wherever, we can cross reference relevant use cases already identified in other related specifications or initiatives would obviously be useful. If we are going to include in 12.7 OMG, we should consider including J2EE and .NET since these are commonly used deployment environments although I believe deployment environment can be discussed in context of platform independence and interoperability requirements. How different web services features manifest themselves in some of these use cases will obviously need to be discussed as part of validating requirements... ---Zahid -----Original Message----- From: Christopher Ferris [mailto:chris.ferris@sun.com] Sent: Thursday, March 28, 2002 10:54 AM To: Public W/S Arch Subject: DAG0012 Use Cases <RemovesChairHat> I haven't seen anything on the list for DAG0012, so I'll take a stab. The current goal draft reads: DAG0012 - identify or create the use cases that validate the requirements and the web services architecture and illustrate the benefits of web services Aside from some gramatical nits, it seems pretty straight-forward and quite reasonable and uncontroversial (IMHO). Suggested tweaks: DAG0012 - identify and/or create a comprehensive set of use cases that: - validate the WG's requirements and the web services reference architecture, and - illustrate the benefits of web services As for CSF's for this goal: DAG0012.1 must include for 'simple' web service use case such as the infamous 'stockQuote' web service DAG0012.2 must include e-commerce use case(s) such as purchase of books through an e-tail portal such as Amazon.com or bn.com DAG0012.3 must include b2b use case(s) such as supply-chain automation between business partners. This should include some provision for collaborative, choreographed flow of messages between partners DAG0012.4 must include EAI use case(s) such as in the case of ERP integration DAG0012.5 must include portal content aggregation use case DAG0012.6 must include REST-compatible use case(s) DAG0012.7 should involve harvesting of use cases from external (to WSAWG) initiatives including, but not restricted to: - other W3C WGs, esp the WS Activity WGs - OASIS TCs such as ebXML MS, RegRep, CPP/A, Provision, WSRP, SAML and others - Grid Forum - DAML-Services - OMG - WS-I.org DAG0012.8 should include dynamic service discovery use case DAG0012.9 must include service composition use case(s) DAG0012.10 must include versioning use case(s) I'm sure there's more:) Okay, flame away! Cheers, Chris </RemovesChairHat>
