Research Fellowship: Semantic Web Technologies for Learning

  The Open University's Knowledge Media Institute 
(KMi) has an opening for a Research Fellow to 
undertake the design and development of semantic 
web technologies within the Knowledge Web 
(knowledgeweb.semanticweb.org) EU funded Network 
of Excellence. The job will involve the 
development of an advanced semantic platform for 
learning which integrates web based knowledge 
technologies and conventional learning systems. 
In the first instance the work will be on the 
software infrastructure needed for the successful 
use of the Magpie semantic browser 
(kmi.open.ac.uk/projects/magpie) as a means of 
navigating through, as well as making sense of, 
learning resources which are designed for 
learners wishing to acquire knowledge about the 
Semantic Web. Experience in web and knowledge 
technologies is essential for this vacancy. 
Knowledge of conventional e-learning systems and 
educational metadata standards would also be 
useful.

  The 2 Year appointment will be made on the 
Research Staff salary scale Grade C1A £18,893 - 
£28,279 or Research Staff salary scale Grade C2B 
£26,327 - £34,838 pa depending on qualifications 
and experience. Appointment as a Research Fellow 
requires a PhD or three years equivalent in 
quality of achievement.
