The SSML subgroup of the Voice Browser Working Group held its fourth meeting in Beijing on January 16-18, 2007. Hosted by France Telecom, the meeting included attendees by Toshiba, Panasonic, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, IBM, iFlyTek, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Animo/JEITA, Loquendo, and Nuance. In this meeting we reviewed and categorized the feedback from the third SSML Internationalization Workshop. A major new topic from this workshop for us to consider was transliteration; we need more experts on Indic languages within the working group before we can work on this. We also increased the priority of support for mixed-language text and spent the majority of our meeting revamping the way xml:lang and voice selection interact in order to provide increased author control. We reviewed a number of change requests as well. Our next meeting will be held April 24-26, 2007 in Beijing. Daniel C. Burnett and Zhi Wei Shuang, Co-chairs, SSML 1.1 subgroup
