Access db from VoiceXML

Is it possible to access database through DSO of XML from VoiceXML 
since VoiceXML is basically an XML document if Iam not wrong. Will any 
please give a please of sample code in it.Iam using IBM VoiceToolkit. 
The voiceToolkit can recognise my JSP page as a JSP. It is throwing 
"Element expected" arror when it encounters <% in JSP page. Can any one 
provide me a solution for this?.
