Use of https for xhtml names space

Hello! I'm wondering if this is an oversight or working as intended:

The validator requires an XHTML names space, but it requires that it be HTTP, not HTTPS.

http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml

That link is included when emails are sent in HTML format--the entire HTML is attached to the email. This causes problems with security software that is scanning for http links. Note, the link above DOES WORK as https, and https is the "best practice" for websites.

However, the validator says the link above is the ONLY correct link, and flags https://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml as an error.

Best,

Mitch
