Your Site Is Being Used To Scam The Vulnerable

There is a scam where people use your site to try to convince vulnerable people such as the elderly that there is something wrong with their computer or internet, and to convince them that they are calling from their service provider. They then persuade them to hand over sensitive information or download malicious software.

They call people saying they are from their internet provider and say to Google "validator" which they do. Then they tell them to search for something such as "sky.com" or their own email address. This throws up a lot of errors. They act shocked on the phone saying there are so many errors, the computer is corrupted, I need to download some files so they can "fix" it for me. They ask for sensitive information to steal identities.

This scam can very easily trick people who are not tech minded. I urge you to put some sort of warning on your site about this. It would be very easy to put a warning on this page: https://validator.w3.org/

It would stop vulnerable people from being scammed out of their pensions etc. Please, I urge you to consider this small action that could prevent fraud.

Thank you.
