epub 3.0.1 attribute epub:type="toc"

Hi,

I’ve searched the issues and found a related one under “Tolerate <main role="main"><https://github.com/validator/validator/issues/386>”

However, it does not address the following error for an xhtml file that is part of the IDPF epub 3.0.1 specifications:

1. Info: Using the preset for XHTML with SVG 1.1, MathML 3.0, RDFa 1.1, and ITS 2.0 support based on the root namespace.

2. Error: Attribute type from namespace http://www.idpf.org/2007/ops not allowed on XHTML element nav<http://www.w3.org/html/wg/drafts/html/master/single-page.html#the-nav-element> at this point.

From line 10, column 7; to line 10, column 39

dy>↩ <nav epub:type="toc" class="toc">↩
Attributes for element nav<http://www.w3.org/html/wg/drafts/html/master/single-page.html#the-nav-element>:

The IDPF specifications (http://www.idpf.org/epub/301/spec/epub-contentdocs.html#sec-xhtml-content-type-attribute) state:

2.1.3.1.1.2 The epub:type Attribute
…
The epub:type attribute is intended to be functionally equivalent to the W3C Role Attribute [Role]<http://www.idpf.org/epub/301/spec/epub-contentdocs.html#refPFRoleAttribute>, but with restrictions as specified in Vocabulary Association<http://www.idpf.org/epub/301/spec/epub-contentdocs.html#sec-contentdocs-vocab-association>. The IDPF's intent is to harmonize this attribute with W3C mechanisms for semantic inflection in a future major revision of the specification.

My understanding is the validator is reporting an error when the IDPF specifications are followed? I tried removing the attribute and the xhtml does validate then, however the applications that read an epub stop displaying the ToC when the attribute is absent (tested with Adobe Digitals).

Best Regards,
Yvon
