Re: http://validator.w3.org/

Back again after some quick testing.

You might be able to do it by yourself from your local computer, but
you’ll need to use command line.

Everything will be text but that’s good enough to help you without
relying on any external web server or IT department

If you can do the following on the command line you might not even need
to ask the IT department at all.

You’ll need:

1. Use the command line (Terminal in Mac OS X, "cmd" in Windows)
2. Have Java installed (procedure below will let you find out)

Procedure:

1. From the Terminal and you’ll get validator messages right away (the
jar file)

1.1. Assume you downloaded vnu.jar_15.4.12.zip, and extracted it in a folder

1.2. Copy some HTML files in the same folder

1.3. Go in a terminal or command line

1.4. Type "java -version" (then Enter) if no error message goes off, you
can continue

1.5. Go in the folder you downloaded the file. It depends if you are on
Windows, Linux, or Mac. I can’t help you there.

1.6. From the folder you downloaded and extracted the file, and added an
HTML file to test, you can do it like this

    java -jar ~/Downloads/dist/vnu.jar path/to/an/html/file.html

Otherwise you’ll need to have a Tomcat/Glassfish server running in which
you will run the .war files and you’ll get the same site as if you were
using the public validator service.

My recommendation is to use the command line so you don’t rely on
anybody for now.

Hope this helps.
