But having at one point in my life wasted more time than proper on learning

For I had really hoped to see more of what triggered the remark, "It's like 
2003 never happened, let alone 2007. Also probably the last remaining 
references to WMLScript on the entire interweb."

But far fewer cell phones these days than in 2001 use browsers grasping 
only WML, so it's rather much less important to know the ins and outs of 
basic wml syntax, structure, or morphology than it once was.
