Dear all, The W3C markup validator received a spring upgrade today. Use it online http://validator.w3.org/ .... or download it: it is Free and Open Source http://validator.w3.org/source/ The new version, 0.8.5, is both a bugfix and feature release. Among the new features, the addition of “fuzzy matching” will provide users with suggestions for replacement in case of typos or mistakes in element or attributes names. Other changes, including UI improvements, document updates, and a lot of bug fixes, can be seen in the ChangeLog, at: http://validator.w3.org/whatsnew.html#t2009-03-26 **** Installation **** The validator is free and open source, and anyone is welcome to download it and use on a local server. All the options for getting the software are listed at http://validator.w3.org/source/ and the installation instructions are at: http://validator.w3.org/docs/install.html **** Contribute ! **** The W3C validators are open source projects, and we can't emphasise how important the contribution of this community has been. If you wish to contribute to this project, the following page will give you guidance on contributing in the following areas: - Helping others in the user community (here on this list!) - Code. Adopt a bug. Push the next-generation validation architecture - Feedback, ideas. Your ideas matter. - Money. Donate, or become a sponsor. For details, see: http://validator.w3.org/contribute.html **** Thank you **** I personally wish to thank all the skilful contributors, the patient mentors providing help to other users, the opinionated but constructive participants in list discussions. As my time at W3C ends in a few days, and as I prepare to hand the nurturing of this project to the W3C systems team, I can say without a doubt that this has been one of the most wonderful endeavour and community I've had a chance to work with, and from the bottom of my heart, I thank you. -- olivier
