The Free Validator instance hosted at http://validator.w3.org/feed/ 
reports my Atom[1] feeds as being Atom, not RSS. You didn't provide a 
URL, but I assume the problem is at your end, not the W3C's.


[1] Not ATOM, it isn't an abbreviation.
