L.S.,

Most questions people ask you will probably be about unexpected error
messages and similar problems. This time, however, I did expect an error
message which did not come!

While checking all pages of the site www.jadafinance.com, all pages
validated correctly as XHTML 1.0 Strict.
In order to switch to the next page to be checked, I just changed the
alias id in the URL (e.g.,
"http://www.jadafinance.com/jada2007/index.php?id=startpagina" became
"http://www.jadafinance.com/jada2007/index.php?id=wie").

In at least one case I saw I made a typo in the alias and expected a
"Page not found" error. But instead, this non-existing page was
validated as perfect XHTML 1.0 Strict. When I then specified the source
code to be displayed, I found that in actual fact the home page was
checked instead, without any notice that the page asked for was not found!
I would rather expect that whenever there is a typo in the URL,
resulting in the page not being found, a relevant error message is
produced. (If you want to try, go to
"http://www.jadafinance.com/jada2007/index.php?id=startpagina". You can
hover the mouse cursor over the menu options at the right and see the
correct aliases in the browser's status bar. The problem occurs with
non-existent aliases.)

When validation errors occur, the user can see from the error messages
that the wrong page has been checked. But if everything is flagged OK,
there is no sign whatsoever showing that something has gone wrong.

I would appreciate if you could inform me whether this behaviour is by
design (and if so, why?), or is to be changed in a next edition (and if
so, when expectedly?). Thank you very much in advance.

Sincerely,
