Other then "well formedness" being a meaningless term when applied to 
HTML (and the end tag being forbidden on a number of elements, link 
included) .

* Internet Explorer doesn't support XHTML.

* Pretending XHTML is HTML by serving it as text/html is an ugly hack 
that depends on browser bugs.
