OK, here's my idea for improvement:

I think that local files (ie. ones which start with file:///) should be
supported with the URL being the same syntax as the regular one. This would
also mean that there wouldn't have to be an 'upload' section of the
validator, and, more importantly, my bookmarklet would work for local files
:).
