A new version of the W3C Markup Validation Service (a.k.a HTML validator), the popular free service and tool checking the validity of Web documents, was released today. http://validator.w3.org/ The new 0.7.2 version of the validator is a bugfix version, fixing issues in: - installation (notably with a recent version of the Config::General perl module) - document type and character encoding support - "parse tree" display for some very deeply nested documents - documentation The detail of the fixes is available at: http://validator.w3.org/whatsnew.html#t2006-02-20 * Using and Installing the Markup Validator * The Markup Validator is available as a free service hosted by W3C at: http://validator.w3.org/ It is also an Open Source/Free Software, available for download and installation on a variety of systems and platforms, see: http://validator.w3.org/source/ and http://validator.w3.org/docs/install.html * Thanks, Credits, and hacking/helping opportunities * Many thanks to all the people who have helped on this particular release, through code, bug reports, patches. In no particular order: R.W. Crowl, Sierk Bornemann, Alexander Skwar, Ville Skyttä, Antonio Cavedoni, Bjoern Hoehrmann, and... I'm probably forgetting many others. Thanks also to everyone on www-validator, for your patience and nice help given to users of the tool. Kudos to all. As mentioned above, this release is mostly for bug fixes, but there is another one in the pipe, with new features and some architectural changes. There is still work needed on that one, and if you're a perl hacker willing to play with XML, SAX, DOM, SOAP, among other things, don't hesitate to jump in and join the development team. There's room for people willing to do usability study and improvements, for tech writers eager to improve the documentation or write "quality tips", too. See the "participate" section in http://validator.w3.org/feedback.html Thank you, olivier. -- olivier Thereaux - W3C - http://www.w3.org/People/olivier/ W3C Open Source Software: http://www.w3.org/Status
