Dear kindly validator developers, At the suggestion of your online Link Checker page, I finally took the plunge and ran your validator on my homepage, www.dorsai.org/~avi. I was able to get it compliant with HTML 4.0 Transitional pretty easily (Thanks for having such clear instructions!), and I inserted the recommended code to display the validator icon on my homepage. Unfortunately when I use the button to validate my page using your online validation service v0.6.7 at validator.w3.org/check?uri=referer, the referrer header seems to get munged: Sorry, this type of URL scheme (xxxx) is not supported by this service. Please check that you entered the URL correctly. The URL in my location bar is "http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=XXXX%3A%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B%2B", which evaluates to: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=XXXX:+++++++++++++++++++++++++ I searched Google to see whether anyone else had had this problem, but I didn't find any references to your error message. When I use the gemal.dk BrowserSpy Headers Information page at http://gemal.dk/browserspy/headers.cgi, I don't see any referrer header, but there's a header called "HTTP_XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX" with a value of "++++++++++++++". I'm assuming that the problem is being caused by the Referer Filter in the Internet privacy software (McAfee Privacy Service) on the computer I'm using. I don't have authorization to shut off that filter, so I'll try this on another computer and see what happens. Interestingly, I don't have this problem when I click on the link from one of YOUR pages. Thanks, Avi p.s. I've got a lot of good stuff on my homepage, "Avi Green's Internet Tool & Resource Links".
