Hi Thorben thanks for the reply. The problem is not the ampersands - they are encoded properly in the php code and when the html is viewed via the browser. The problem is the "random" link (index.php?page=2&type=d&keywords=&location=...) that has been found by the validator and is not in the page AT ALL. If you look at the source of the non-validating page you can see all the ampersands *are* encoded and the snippet of code given as erroneous by the validator does not even occur in the page.
