doctype used is:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">    

but no DTD url is used. might that be the problem?

no, i included the DTD url in the file before uploading it again for
validation...almost the same result.

some of the errors have disappeared then, but at least one
valign="top" error remains.

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 align=right border=0
                        valign="top">

this one, in fact... valign="center" "top" "bottom" "baseline" should be
allowed for this, independent from the code used before.
is that correct?
