Bjorn, I don't know which Perl you use, but ActiveState added a Text::Iconv package to their PPM system a month or two ago on my request. I thought I'd posted the package URL in in one of my postings back in March, but I can't seem to find which one at the moment. It DOES appear to work, although if you're not using ActiveState, I'm not sure if it will work for you...
