Summary: different results received, depending on validation
method
Product: Validator
Version: 0.8.4
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows XP
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: check
AssignedTo: dave.null@w3.org
ReportedBy: gmsalvatore@yahoo.com
QAContact: www-validator-cvs@w3.org
Dear W3C,
I receive different responses from W3C's validation service depending on which
method I choose to validate my HTML code.
If I use the "Validate by File Upload" I receive:
This document was Tentatively checked as HTML 4.01 Transitional
Result:
Tentatively passed, 2 warning(s)
If I use "Validate by Direct Input" I receive:
This document was successfully checked as HTML 4.01 Transitional!
Result:
Passed
I have attached the file I am validating. Please let me know which results are
the ones I should consider correct. I am an online student at the University of
Phoenix, and your results as affecting my grades. My instructor, who is
checking my work by using your "Validate by File Upload" method, receives 2
warning messages on my HTML code, and is penalizing me points based on these
results.
I am checking my work by using your "Validate by Direct Input" method, which
tells me I have no errors or warnings, in fact, that my code has "passed" and I
can include a W3C icon on my Web page because of this high-level result.
Could you please explain to me why we receive two different results when
checking exactly the same HTML code?
Thank you,
Jerry Salvatore
