An example from http://www.w3.org/Style/css2-updates/WD-CSS21-20030128-20020802- diff/fonts.html font-family: Gill, Helvetica, sans-serif; In the above example, Gill and Helvetica are family names, and sans-serif is the generic family. I validated an external style sheet with no errors or warnings.
