Valid HTML?

Apologies but I'm completely confused by this line in the CSS validator:
"To work as intended, your CSS style sheet needs a correct document parse
tree. This means you should use valid HTML." "valid HTML" is a hyperlink to
the HTML validation page...?

I didn't use to get this line and my current document says no warnings or
errors found. So I'm kind of confused as to what to do as I'm not sure how
to use "valid HTML" in a CSS document.
